SheSale: Girl, can you tell me a little more about brwngrl, please? What is your vision, goal and how will you get there?

Vandana Thanki: Hey sure! 

I started BRWN GRL in 2018, because I felt that I wanted to help my community and I didn’t feel like there was enough representation on Instagram then as there is now, 3 years later. I wanted to create a safe space for South Asian people to come together and share their own stories on social issues and in turn this would create a chain reaction to inspire and empower others.

From BRWN GRL I started introducing men onto the page. Men are usually told to be masculine and strong all the time and it can become difficult for them to open up about their struggles, so I wanted them to share their experience as well. Thereafter, it made only sense for me to create #BRWNMEN, a platform just for South Asian men, and after that I created THE BRWN CREATIVE for South Asian artists. All three of these pages create THE BRWN COMMUNITY - which is the umbrella term for all 3 pages.

I want the pages to become established one day with growing followers. I want the pages to help people in their time of need and as a community I want us to inspire future generations.

One day in the future if I can’t fulfil this wish in this lifetime, I want THE BRWN COMMUNITY ago become a charity to help provide help and assistance to the community. :)
